Everyone’s favorite roguelike deck-building game Slay the Spire is finally getting a sequel. Here’s everything you need to know about Slay the Spire 2 including its release date, gameplay, story, and other details.

Slay the Spire 2 Release Date: 2025

Slay the Spire 2 Reveal Trailer

Mega Crit recently announced that Slay the Spire 2 will launch sometime in 2025. The latest Triple-I Initiative showcase featured a teaser video of the upcoming game and it didn’t disappoint. The game is currently expected to come out on PC.

The developers didn’t make it clear whether or not they plan to launch the game on other platforms outside of PC. However, given that the original Slay the Spire launched on consoles and mobile, its sequel is likely to do the same. Fans of the game should keep in mind that the game will be a PC exclusive in the meantime.

Towards the end of Slay the Spire 2’s teaser video, three characters stood side by side. These characters were The Ironclad, The Silent, and a new skeleton character known as The Necrobinder. Given that the game will be in Early Access in 2025, we’re assuming that these characters will likely be the only playable characters during the launch.

Mega Crit is yet to confirm if other characters added to the game. As for the game’s price tag and system requirements, we’ll have to wait for the developers to make an official announcement in the coming months.

Slay the Spire 2 Gameplay

While the game still features its original 2D animated design, you can tell that the developers worked on graphical enhancements. However, we’re not entirely sure if the teaser video’s animated style and the actual gameplay’s design will be the same.

Based on the game’s official Steam page, the prequel and sequel look relatively the same. But given that the game is still under development, there’s a slight possibility that the developers could make some graphical adjustments.

So far Mega Crit released screenshots of the gameplay on their Steam Page. We are yet to see official gameplay trailers or quick playthroughs of the upcoming sequel.

According to Tyler Wilde of PC Gamer, Slay the Spire 2 was built from a new game engine. The game’s predecessor initially utilized Unity, which should’ve been the sequel’s engine as well.

Unfortunately, due to Unity’s new fee structure applied last year, Mega Crit Games decided to run with Godot. Despite Unity’s decision to get rid of its new fee structure, the developers have already decided to push through with the open-source game engine.

Slay the Spire 2 Story

Slay the Spire 2 is a direct sequel to its predecessor. The events that took place in the first game will be related to the sequel’s story. Having that said, it’s ideal for new players to play the original Slay the Spire. The prequel is available on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux with a price tag of approximately $15. Mobile users have it cheaper as the iOS and Android versions of the game cost approximately $9.

It’s worth noting that Android users can technically play the game for free if they are subscribed to the Google Game Pass. With these prices, players are getting their money’s worth. The game takes an estimated 12 hours of total playing time to beat.

Adventure awaits in Slay the Spire 2. Brace yourselves for a long climb to the top.
